Bathtub Replacement in Dayton for Alcove, Freestanding and One-Piece Tubs

Old tub out, new one in, with the drain reconnected and the walls finished around it, priced in writing before we start.

Tubs We Install

Alcove, freestanding and one-piece tub units

We install alcove and freestanding tubs and one-piece tub and shower units, the last vacuum-formed to order in cast acrylic in white and biscuit.

The tub types a replacement can use, and where each one fits:

  • For the existing alcove

    Alcove Tub

An "alcove" tub is built in against three walls with one open front, so it drops into the space the old built-in tub leaves, with the surround finished around it.

    Tile or acrylic surround

  • Freestanding Tub

Stands on its own away from the walls. Its drain and filler are planned where the tub will sit, so if the drain moves, that move is priced in the quote.

    Open on every side

  • One-Piece Tub and Shower

Tub and walls in a single seamless shell of cast acrylic, made to order in many sizes and shapes. Clarion Bathware builds these units in the US.

    White or biscuit

American Standard and Ella's are among the tub makers used in tub renovations; we talk through models and sizes on the estimate visit.

What the Job Covers

Bathtub replacement in Dayton homes and rentals

A bathtub replacement takes out a worn or cracked tub and sets a new one with its drain, overflow and surround, and we do it in Dayton homes and rental properties.

You end the job with a working tub, not an open wall: the drain and overflow are reconnected, the walls around the tub are finished, and every seam is sealed before we pack up.

Walls and Surround

Surround replacement with the new tub

A new tub does not always need new walls, because a "surround replacement" that keeps the faucet, valve and drain where they are needs little plumbing work.

The new walls can be tile or acrylic panels. Leaving the fixtures in place also keeps the price down, since it costs less than taking the tub out for a shower and running new pipes in the wall.

How the Swap Runs

Tub removal and installation steps

The old tub is cut or lifted out, the floor and wall board under it are checked for water damage, and the new tub is leveled, connected and sealed.

Water that slipped past the old tub's seams does not stop on its own. Damage to a subfloor or framing spreads if it is not repaired, which is why the check sits between the removal and the install.

The steps of a tub swap, in order:

  1. Removal

We protect the floor and hallway, disconnect the drain and supply, and cut or lift the old tub out for disposal.

  2. Subfloor check

With the tub gone we check the "subfloor" and wall board for rot, and any repair is written up and approved before it goes ahead.

  3. Install

The new tub is set level and fully supported so it sits solid and water runs to the drain.

  4. Drain

The drain and overflow are connected and the supply is tested before the walls close up.

  5. Sealant

The surround and trim go on, every seam gets sealant, and we clean up before we leave.

Pricing

How bathtub replacement pricing works

A bathtub replacement is priced on the tub, the surround, how the old tub comes out and whether the drain or valve has to change, and we quote it in writing first.

What's the average price to replace a bathtub?

Replacing a bathtub in Dayton typically runs $635.90 to $1,271.80, and wider published figures run from $343 to $4,914. Where yours lands depends on the tub, the surround and whether the drain or supply lines move. We quote the whole job in writing before we start, and the price factors for the whole room are in our bathroom remodel cost guide.

Is it easy to replace your bathtub?

It is a contained job when the new tub takes the old one's place and the fixtures stay put, since a surround replacement that keeps them where they are needs little plumbing work. It takes longer when a heavy old tub has to be cut apart to get it through the door or the drain has to move, and we tell you which applies on the estimate visit.

Can you put a new bathtub over an old bathtub?

We take the old tub out rather than cover it, so the floor and wall board under it can be checked for water damage, which spreads if it is not repaired. With the old tub gone, the new one is set level and its drain and overflow connected fresh. If the tub is sound and only the walls look tired, a surround replacement is the lighter job.

Do I need a plumber to replace a bathtub?

Disconnecting and reconnecting the drain, overflow and supply is part of our tub replacement, so you do not book a second trade for it. Moving the drain or supply lines is more plumbing work and changes the cost, so it is priced in the written quote.
